Reflect on what you plan to do to address the equity and ethics issues when applying technologies. You may share with us about what you have been doing by addressing these aspects and what you will change after learning in this module. DescriptionMy reflection for module 3 is based off of the readings from the books including chapter 6 of ISTE's Technology Facilitation and Leadership Standards as well as chapter 2 from the Handbook of Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPCK) for Educators. This reflection is also based off of the case study assignment as well as the discussion board topics. Impact Before participating in this module I did not think too much about equity and ethical issues when using technology. After reading the case study, I felt appalled that the teacher in the study seemed to do nothing to address these issues in the classroom. I feel like a lot of what she was not doing correctly were things all teachers know about, even without studying about ethics and technology. For example, she should not have left the grade book open on the computer for the students to look at. Things like this seem like simple common sense to me.
When thinking about equity and ethics with technology, I think a lot of things could fall under the "common sense" category, such as not installing a program on 22 computers that only has a single-user license. However, I wonder how many teachers think they are an exception to this rule because they are teachers? I wonder how many people think about the ethics rules when it comes to technology? The internet makes it so easy to access information I think people do not even think about copyright laws.
I've learned from this module that I cannot take technology for granted. There are a lot of resources on the internet I can use in my classroom, as well as a lot of other hardware and software technologies. I've always known that I have to follow the rules when it comes to using technology, however, I think it is easy to forget sometimes because it is so readily available. I've also learned how important it is to teach students about the proper use of technology. I believe if students start following the rules and laws young, the easier it will be for them to remember to do it in the future.
Intent As a result of participating in this module, I will always make sure I am following technology rules and laws to the best of my knowledge. I will not take information on the internet for granted just because it is easily available to me. I will also teach my students the correct use of technology and rules and laws that go along with that technology so I can ensure we are using the technology in a proper way.
